What Percentile Can 90 Marks Get in CAT?

A CAT score of 90 marks does not correspond to one permanent percentile. Using recent published score-percentile anchors and interpolation, the same 90-mark performance has sat in a noticeably different place across recent CATs.

CAT yearApprox. percentile for 90 marks
2023~99.6
2024~98.4
2025~99.3

For the latest completed CAT 2025, the estimate is about 99.3 percentile. Across the three years in this research, the same score spans roughly 98.4 to 99.6 percentile. That gap is not noise—it is exactly what paper difficulty and scaling do to score interpretation.

Is 90 a good CAT score?

The answer depends on your target. If your objective is a 90-percentile range, 90 may already be close or above it in some years; if you are targeting the very top percentile bands, it is a checkpoint rather than the finish line. More importantly, ask where the 90 came from. A balanced 90 with all three sections alive is usually more useful for admissions than a total produced by one exceptional section and one near-collapse.

What should you target next?

Use 100 marks as the next training milestone rather than jumping straight to a distant percentile target. Ten net marks can come from surprisingly small changes: three additional clean correct answers plus one avoided negative mark, or one better DILR set plus fewer rushed QA attempts. Review the last three mocks and identify the cheapest source of those marks.

A useful improvement plan has three lines: easy marks missed, negative marks avoidable, and time lost on low-conversion questions. Fix those before adding more syllabus.

Do not compare mock percentiles blindly

Mock percentiles depend on the test-taking pool and difficulty of that mock series. Compare your raw/scaled mock performance and error pattern with your own recent tests first, then use CAT historical benchmarks as context. The aim is to make 90+ repeatable—not to celebrate or panic over one converted percentile.
