Guide
MICAT Verbal Ability sits inside a much broader selection process, so prepare it as a qualifying aptitude component, not as a mini CAT VARC. Your CAT/XAT reading base helps, but MICAT can require more direct verbal flexibility alongside the creative/psychometric stages.
What to train
Keep reading comprehension and paragraph logic, but add faster work on vocabulary-in-context, sentence usage and concise verbal reasoning. The objective is to avoid losing a MICAT aptitude cutoff because you prepared only the creative sections.
A 25-minute practice block
Spend 10 minutes on one short RC or argument set, 10 minutes on mixed direct verbal questions, and 5 minutes reviewing why each wrong option failed. Alternate days should include para-logic or verbal reasoning rather than repeating the same RC format.
Review differently from CAT
Do not only ask whether the answer was right. Tag whether the miss came from vocabulary, grammar/usage, reading scope, inference or time. The intervention differs: a vocabulary gap needs recall; an inference error needs passage evidence; a time problem needs faster first-pass decisions.
Keep perspective
MICA does not select on this section alone. Psychometric is qualifying, and the current selection sequence also considers CAT/XAT/GMAT, MICAT aptitude/descriptive performance and later GE/PI. Your goal is a stable verbal score with no avoidable cutoff risk, while preserving time for the parts of MICAT that conventional MBA preparation does not cover.
A focused practice block for Verbal Ability Strategy
Start with 10 minutes of direct questions or recall, then 15 minutes under the exam's real pace, and finish with 5 minutes of review. For this page, the skill you are actually trying to stabilise is: Conventional aptitude plus awareness inside a specialist selection process.. Carry CAT/XAT/GMAT base but remember MICAT cutoffs and sequence of evaluation.
Do not write “silly mistake” after review. Use one of four labels: `did not know`, `knew but chose a slow method`, `misread/overthought`, or `ran out of time`. The most common traps here are assuming a great cat/xat score compensates for failing micat qualifying sections.
Readiness test: The section is ready when your timing and accuracy stay stable in two separate timed sessions. Once that happens twice, reduce isolated practice and spend more time on mixed/full-paper work.
