Guide
At NMAT 220, the shortlist becomes more sensitive to the exact institute and section scores. This is still a useful score band, but it should be treated as a competitive planning level, not a blanket ticket to every premium NMAT programme.
Start with these routes
| College | OYM planning context | Fee | Avg CTC | Good fit for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NMIMS Mumbai | NMAT 220+ as a safer competitive planning score; recent shortlist benchmark has been around 209 | ₹25L | ₹24.6L | BFSI; consulting; marketing |
| TAPMI Manipal | CAT/XAT ~85–90+; NMAT ~220+ competitive target | ₹19.45L | ₹12.97L | BFSI; marketing; HR |
| Great Lakes Chennai | CAT/XAT ~85–90+; CMAT ~90+; profile matters | ₹20.8L | ₹15.65L | Analytics; product; technology |
| KJ Somaiya Institute of Management | CMAT 95–99 percentile | ₹21L | ₹12L | Marketing; finance; analytics |
| IFMR GSB, Krea University | CMAT 85+ percentile | ₹19.06L | ₹13.5L | Finance; analytics; economics |
| IBS Hyderabad | IBSAT ~80–85 percentile equivalent is a useful target; CAT/NMAT routes are profile based | ₹17.01L | ₹9.71L | Finance; marketing; analytics |
OYM uses 220+ as a safer planning score for NMIMS Mumbai and a competitive target for TAPMI. That is deliberately guidance rather than a promise: the institute's current total/section requirements and programme application remain the final test.
The right way to use 220
If NMIMS is the only outcome you would accept from NMAT, check the current sectional position before spending more application money. If you are open to broader schools, compare TAPMI/Great Lakes/KJ/IFMR on specialization and fee rather than treating all of them as identical backups.
Should you retake?
Retake only if three things are true: the target school accepts the later attempt, the higher score materially changes your shortlist, and your mocks show an identifiable weakness you can repair. A 10-point improvement plan is credible when it comes from one weak section or repeated pacing issue; it is not credible when it is just a wish for a better test day.
At 220, build a shortlist with one stretch, three to five realistic choices and one or two true safeties, then use current admissions notices to verify acceptance. A score page should reduce uncertainty—not encourage indiscriminate applications.

Why On Your Mocks?
A mock score tells you what happened. OYM helps you understand what went wrong and what to work on next.
